Solemnity of Christ the King

This Sunday, the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, marks the end of the Liturgical Year for the Church. At the changing of the Liturgical Season, the Church reflects upon and we remind ourselves Who is in control, Who is the Lord of History, Who is the King of the universe. We sang as little children, “He’s got the whole world in His hands.” Do we mean it? Do we believe it?

As I write this Pastor’s Corner, Ukraine just sent missiles provided by the United States into Russia. I am not going to debate whether this was a good or bad decision, but it helps to illustrate the point of this great Feast. This conflict and the conflict in the Middle East bring the reality of another World War into the quite real realm of possibility. We might be tempted to say, “God, do you see what is going on down here? Do you even care?” And this is just today’s news!

My children in the Lord Jesus, our confidence is in God, not the powers of this world. He redeems sin and suffering. This world is His. He created it. He sustains it. He holds it together. He allows the wheat and weeds, the good and the bad, the saints and the sinners to grow and live amongst each other. We cannot see how and we, sometimes, wish it weren’t so. We, however, cannot see what He sees. Once again, I pray, “O Lord, I surrender this conflict, this world, these persons to you. Take care of everything.” It is good to be reminded that Jesus Christ is King of the Universe, the King of history and beyond. We can push forward with confidence and in hope knowing that He who knows and sees all things does everything for our salvation, the salvation of others, and the salvation of the whole world.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
On Thursday we celebrate Thanksgiving Day as we gather together as family and friends to lift our eyes and hearts to the Lord in gratitude for who He is and all He has done for us! I am thankful to Almighty God for you, the people of St. James! Your constant prayer, love, and support for me spurs me on in my fight with cancer. Your support for our Charging Forward in Faith and Education Capital Campaign is encouraging as you love for our St. James community shows forth strongly. Please continue to pray for its success!
